Atlanta Dream forward Angel Reese left Sunday's 93-91 victory over the Chicago Sky after her left knee buckled under the basket early in the fourth quarter, and the team has yet to provide an update on her condition.
Reese drove to the basket and came to a jump stop when her knee gave way. She missed the layup, fell to the court, got up quickly, then went down again moments later. Medical staff attended to her before she walked to the bench, and the Dream ruled her out for the remainder of the game.
"It seemed like a really long timeout and there wasn't a lot being said because we were all just looking at Angel," Dream coach Karl Smesko said. "She wanted to go out there and keep playing because she's competitive and she wants to win the game. I just didn't feel comfortable with it because she looked like she was in a lot of pain."
The Dream overcame the loss of their star forward, edging the Sky 93-91 at home. The team declined to provide a medical update after the game, leaving the severity and timeline of the injury unclear.
Reese, in her first season with Atlanta after being acquired in a blockbuster offseason trade, has been one of the WNBA's most dominant players. She leads the league with 11.8 rebounds per game and has recorded 14 double-doubles, while averaging 14.9 points. She was named a WNBA All-Star earlier this month.
The injury is a significant concern for the Dream, who have been relying on Reese's interior presence and rebounding as they push for playoff positioning. Atlanta will await further evaluation before determining her availability going forward.
