Raphinha scored twice as Barcelona routed Feyenoord 5-1 at Camp Nou on Wednesday to make a statement start to their Champions League campaign.
The Brazilian forward, deputising as a central striker following the departures of Robert Lewandowski and Ferran Torres, needed just three minutes to open the scoring. Raphinha received a pass from Lamine Yamal inside the box, feinted past two sliding defenders on the rain-soaked turf and slotted calmly past goalkeeper Tjark Ernst.
Karim Adeyemi doubled the lead on 22 minutes, collecting the ball in the final third and unleashing a curling right-footed strike from outside the area that left Ernst rooted to the spot. It was the German winger's first Champions League goal for the club.
Raphinha made it three shortly after the hour mark, running on to a perfectly weighted through-ball from Pedri and sweeping a left-footed finish into the corner for his eighth goal in six outings this season.
Feyenoord thought they had pulled one back through Nacho Ferri, but the effort was correctly chalked off for offside after a VAR review.
Lamine Yamal added the fourth with 13 minutes remaining, bending a free-kick through a gap in the Feyenoord wall from the edge of the area.
Sem Steijn offered Feyenoord a consolation in the 82nd minute, converting a low cross from Goncalo Borges at the far post, but Gabriel Jesus restored the five-goal cushion just two minutes later. The Brazilian substitute, a deadline-day signing from Arsenal, met Yamal's cross with a glancing header to score his first goal for Barcelona.
It was the fourth time in five matches this season that Hansi Flick's side have scored five goals, bringing their tally to 22 — the most Barcelona have managed at this stage of a campaign since 1950. Raphinha, who retains his role as the team's focal point up front, has now scored in all five of Barcelona's matches this term and leads the European scoring charts.
The result also marked midfielder Rodri's Champions League debut for Barcelona following his high-profile transfer from Manchester City.
