Lewis Hamilton has had a corner at the Hungaroring named after him as part of the circuit's 40th anniversary celebrations for the Hungarian Grand Prix.
Turn 2 now officially carries the name of the seven-time world champion, who is the most successful driver in the history of the Budapest venue with eight race victories and nine pole positions. The honour places Hamilton among an elite group of Formula 1 legends recognised through the circuit's first-ever official corner naming programme.
The project, driven by fan voting and reviewed by an expert panel including long-serving circuit staff and leading motorsport journalists, saw all 14 corners of the 4.381 km track receive official names. Hamilton's turn was chosen with direct acknowledgment of his personal preference — the Briton had previously stated that if a corner were to be named after him, Turn 2 would be his choice. During the Thursday media day ahead of this weekend's Hungarian Grand Prix, Hamilton expressed his pride at having his name permanently associated with the circuit.
