The NBA offseason delivered one of its most complex transactions in recent memory, with Khris Middleton heading back to the Washington Wizards as part of a six-team, 11-player megadeal that reshapes multiple rosters across the league.
Middleton, a three-time All-Star who turns 35 next month, agreed to a sign-and-trade with the Dallas Mavericks that sends him to Washington on a partially guaranteed three-year deal worth up to $17.6 million, a person with knowledge of the agreement told The Associated Press.
The trade, which requires league approval, is a sprawling multi-team transaction. D'Angelo Russell moves from Washington to Memphis, while Caris LeVert goes from Detroit to Milwaukee in exchange for Taurean Prince and Gary Harris. The Los Angeles Clippers are also involved, sending John Collins to Detroit as part of the arrangement.
For Middleton, the move marks a return to Washington, where he played earlier in his career before being traded to Dallas in February. The veteran forward averaged 10.2 points across 63 games this past season, splitting time between the Wizards and Mavericks. His experience and scoring ability provide the Wizards with a seasoned veteran presence in a young locker room.
The deal underscores the increasingly complex nature of NBA roster construction under the current collective bargaining agreement, as teams find creative ways to match salaries and acquire assets.
