Former world number six Marketa Vondrousova has been suspended for four years by an independent ITIA tribunal for refusing an out-of-competition anti-doping test. The refusal dated back to 3 December 2025, and the decision was published on 22 June 2026, bringing a sudden and definitive end to a career already disrupted by injury.
The Czech, who won Wimbledon in 2023 with a stunning run as an unseeded player, offered no convincing justification for declining the test, according to the tribunal. The ban runs until 21 June 2030, effectively shutting the door on a player capable of the very highest peaks even as physical setbacks had interrupted her momentum in recent seasons on tour.
The ITIA, the independent body that safeguards the integrity of tennis, handled the case under its anti-doping programme. The verdict is final and admits no reduction: four years is the maximum sanction for this category of violation, reserved for the most serious breaches of the testing regime and a clear deterrent to others.
