Mercedes has software fix ready for Russell ahead of Hungarian GP

Mercedes will bring a software update to the Hungarian Grand Prix aimed at curing the power unit issues that hampered George Russell during the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa, according to [Crash.net F1](https://www.crash.net/f1/news/1101567/1/mercedes-has-fix-george-russells-f1-power-unit-software-glitch).

Russell struggled all weekend with a straight-line speed deficit to Mercedes team-mate Andrea Kimi Antonelli, qualifying more than half a second behind the Italian teenager. His race ended on lap one after a first-lap clash with Lewis Hamilton at Les Combes, caused by a lack of power on the Kemmel Straight that cost him crucial positions.

In the days between Spa and the Hungarian round, Mercedes traced the problem to the power unit software. “It was effectively numbers on a screen that were not quite calibrated properly,” Russell explained. “It is not a hardware issue: the deployment was not optimal across the lap and we saw a similar problem with Oscar Piastri as well.”

The British driver confirmed the team is “pretty confident” the fix will be deployed this weekend. “It is a huge load off my mind, but also while I'm driving: for three sessions I tried to adjust my driving style to what turned out to be the wrong diagnosis.”

Russell also addressed his radio outburst after the Spa crash: “When you get taken out on lap one and end up in the gravel trap, emotions are high. But these cars and power units are so complex you cannot check every single parameter.”

Now the target is simple: “I just want to go into a weekend where I can focus on driving fast, not on how to save the power unit.”
