Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum will attend the World Cup final between Argentina and Spain on Sunday after a direct invitation from U.S. President Donald Trump. It will be their first meeting since December, following months of tensions over security and trade.
Sheinbaum, who did not attend the tournament's opening match in Mexico — giving her ticket to a young indigenous girl — accepted Trump's invitation to watch the final at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
Joining her will be Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez, King Felipe VI of Spain, and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney. The gathering underscores the geopolitical significance of the final, played amid ongoing diplomatic strains between the U.S. and Mexico.
