Lazio have completed the signing of Italy midfielder Davide Frattesi from Inter, bringing the 26-year-old back to his home city on a season-long loan with an option to make the move permanent.
Both clubs confirmed the deal on Friday evening. "FC Internazionale Milano announce the transfer of Davide Frattesi to SS Lazio," read Inter's statement. "The midfielder, born in 1999, moves on a temporary basis until the end of the season with an option in favour of the Biancocelesti." Lazio, for their part, said they had acquired the player's sporting rights "on a temporary basis, with an option for the definitive purchase".
The move closes a three-year chapter at San Siro, where Frattesi was used largely as an impact substitute. He has been handed the number 16 shirt. According to reports, Lazio will pay around €5 million for the loan, with the buy option set at €10 million plus performance-related bonuses, while Inter have kept 50 per cent of any future resale fee.
Frattesi returns to a club woven into his family history. His father is a lifelong Lazio supporter and took him to the Stadio Olimpico as a boy, and the midfielder trained at the club's Giustiniana youth centre before making his name elsewhere. "I feel like I've come home," he told Lazio's official channels. "I recognised every street I used to ride through when I was training at Giustiniana. I needed to feel loved, to feel at the centre of a project. Now is the time to take on responsibility."
The Italy international was close to joining Lazio in January before the move fell through. "They told me about this opportunity two days ago," he said. "I could only say yes and sign."
His arrival gives Gennaro Gattuso's midfield renewed dynamism and a proven eye for goal, a timely boost for the Biancocelesti as they prepare for the new Serie A season.
