Christian Pulisic scored his first goal of the season as AC Milan swept past Lecce 3-0 at San Siro on Saturday evening, celebrating the stadium's 100th birthday with a commanding Serie A display that eased the pressure on head coach Ruben Amorim.
Pulisic, making his first start of the campaign after recovering from injury, opened the scoring in the 14th minute with a moment of individual quality. Strahinja Pavlovic found the American with a clipped pass over the top, and Pulisic controlled the ball brilliantly before finishing past Wladimiro Falcone with his left foot.
The goal settled Milan's nerves after a turbulent week that included a humiliating 2-0 home defeat to Benfica in their Europa League opener. Amorim made six changes from that side, bringing back Pulisic, Adrien Rabiot, Luka Modric, Mario Gila, Pervis Estupinan and Alexis Saelemaekers.
Milan dominated possession after the opener but had to wait until the 61st minute for the second goal. Goncalo Ramos played a no-look return pass that Rabiot swept in at the near post, capping a flowing team move that underlined the Rossoneri's superiority.
Diego Moreira, introduced as a substitute along with Ruben Loftus-Cheek in place of Saelemaekers and Pulisic, sealed the win in the 74th minute. Ramos did well to hold the ball up with his back to goal, and the Portuguese wing-back surged onto the pass to finish under the onrushing Falcone.
Modric departed to a standing ovation shortly after the third goal, making way for Yunus Musah. Davide Bartesaghi replaced Estupinan, whose performance drew jeers from the home crowd. Mike Maignan preserved the clean sheet late on with a save from a Fatah shot heading inside the far post.
The result cuts the gap to the Serie A leaders to two points after Inter and Roma drew earlier in the day, though Milan remain outside the top four. More importantly, it provides a timely boost after three difficult matches and eases scrutiny on Amorim, whose side had managed just one win in their previous four outings across all competitions.
For Lecce, who sit in the lower reaches of the table, it was a sobering evening against a Milan side finally clicking into gear.
