Run in extreme heat, with more than 60°C inside the cockpit, the race delivered a string of close battles. Verstappen, who started fifth, fought back to second, finishing 1.611 seconds adrift — the four-time world champion's best result of the year. Russell's Mercedes team-mate Kimi Antonelli completed the podium 1.986 seconds back, consolidating his lead in the drivers' standings.
For Russell the win carried real psychological weight after a campaign dogged by misfortune and the strong form of his team-mate.
