The 33rd edition of the San Marino Open, an ATP Challenger 125 event, has been presented ahead of its final week of July start at the Centro Tennis Cassa di Risparmio di Fonte dell'Ovo.
Tournament director Nicola Lombardini confirmed the main-draw wild cards: 18-year-old Jacopo Vasamì, a former world No. 2 in the ITF Junior rankings; Filippo Romano, 21, from Sarzana who is coming off a growing season on the ITF circuit; and Carlo Alberto Caniato, 20, who trains at Villa Carpena Forlì and has already made his mark in Challenger events.
«These three youngsters have already competed at Challenger level,» Lombardini said. «They were recommended to us by Italy's Davis Cup captain Filippo Volandri, and they are capable of performing well. The idea is to give them a deserved platform to showcase their talent.»
A major innovation this year is the introduction of electronic line-calling (Hawk-Eye), replacing line judges, along with a renovated centre court. The prize fund stands at $203,900. The tournament will be broadcast by SuperTennis from Tuesday July 28 and by San Marino RTV from Thursday.
Among the favourites are Argentina's Facundo Diaz Acosta, just outside the top 100 and already a four-time Challenger champion in 2026, and France's Alexandre Muller, the 2024 edition winner. Other players to watch include Hugo Dellien, Otto Virtanen, Nikoloz Basilashvili, and Pedro Martinez. Italian hopes also rest on Andrea Pellegrino, Francesco Maestrelli, and Marco Cecchinato, while Luca Nardi withdrew late with an adductor injury.
