The 33rd edition of the San Marino Open, an ATP Challenger 125 event with a $203,900 prize purse, gets underway from Sunday July 26 through August 2 at the Centro Tennis Cassa di Risparmio di Fonte dell'Ovo.
Three young Italian talents have been awarded wild cards for the main draw: Jacopo Vasamì (18, former ITF Junior world No.2), Filippo Romano (21) and Carlo Alberto Caniato (20).
"These are three young players who have already competed at Challenger level," said tournament director Nicola Lombardini. "They were recommended by Italy's Davis Cup captain Filippo Volandri and are capable of performing well. The idea is to offer them a deserved platform to showcase their talent."
The main draw also features other Italians including Andrea Pellegrino (2023 finalist), Francesco Maestrelli and Marco Cecchinato, recent finalist at the Milan Challenger. Luca Nardi withdrew at the last minute with an adductor problem.
Among the novelties for 2026, electronic line calling (Hawk-Eye) has been introduced for the first time, replacing line judges. SuperTennis will broadcast the tournament from Tuesday July 28, alongside San Marino Rtv coverage.
Top seed is Argentina's Facundo Diaz Acosta, currently just outside the Top 100 and winner of four Challenger titles in 2026. Other notable entries include Bolivia's Hugo Dellien, Finland's Otto Virtanen, former world No.16 Nikoloz Basilashvili of Georgia, 2024 champion Alexandre Muller of France, and Spain's Pedro Martinez.
