Sara Errani: "Los Angeles 2028? I can't play until I'm 50, but I'll do everything I can"

Sara Errani, icon of Italian tennis and Olympic gold medalist in women's doubles with Jasmine Paolini at Paris 2024, has spoken about the future and the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics. The 39-year-old from Bologna discussed the possibility of defending her Olympic title in the United States.

Currently Errani is carrying forward two activities at once: tournaments paired with Jasmine Paolini and the role of coach for the Tuscan player. Asked by 'Corriere Romagna', she joked about her longevity: "I can't play until I'm 50," she admitted with a smile. "It's honestly difficult to say right now. But it's also true that right now I'm focused and happy to carry on with both things. There are very tiring days, but the love for this sport is so huge that I enjoy it. And I have so much fun both being on the court and giving a hand to Jas."

The 39-year-old then took stock of her 2026 goals: "Just reaching the tenth Slam won I think is an incredible thing. The goal has always been to give my best every day, work on and off the court, and try to improve as a tennis player and as a person. Then when I stop playing, I will look back at what I managed to do and take stock."

Finally, her closing thoughts on the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics, where the almost 41-year-old would defend the title won at Paris 2024 with Paolini: "They could be a beautiful thing, a dream to get there, but there are still two years left and that's a lot. At my age I can't afford to think too long-term; I prefer to focus on the present and give my best every day. If there is a chance to participate, I will do everything I can to be there."
