Saracens have announced the appointment of Ed Coetzee as their new chief executive officer, bringing in a former professional rugby player with over 300 appearances to lead the Premiership club into its next chapter.
Coetzee, 46, enjoyed a distinguished playing career as a prop, spending four seasons with the Sharks in South Africa before a six-year spell in France with Bayonne and Biarritz. He then transitioned into rugby administration, rising through the ranks at the Sharks as commercial and marketing director, then chief operating officer, before being appointed CEO in 2019.
Most recently, Coetzee served as CEO at French side CA Brive, a role he held from 2024. He now steps into the vacancy left by Charlie Beall, who departed the StoneX Stadium at the end of the 2025-26 season.
"My focus is to build on the strong foundations already in place, fostering a culture where high performance, accountability and continuous improvement underpin everything we do," Coetzee told the Saracens club website. "Our goal is not only to achieve sustained success on the field, but to establish Saracens as one of the most admired and respected sporting organisations in the world of rugby."
The appointment signals Saracens' intent to strengthen their off-field leadership as the club continues to compete at the top end of English rugby. Coetzee's blend of on-field experience and executive know-how across both Southern Hemisphere and European rugby makes him a fitting choice for a club that has long prided itself on ambition both inside and outside the whitewash.
