Stefanos Tsitsipas claimed his first ATP Tour title in 16 months on Sunday, defeating Belgium's Raphael Collignon 6-4, 6-7(3), 6-3 to win the Swiss Open in Gstaad and capture the 13th trophy of his career.
The Greek former world No.3, who had not lifted silverware since the Dubai Open in March 2025, delivered a commanding performance on the clay courts of the Swiss Alps to end a barren run that saw him slide to 85th in the rankings. He will climb to No.55 when the updated rankings are released on Monday.
"I would like to start by mentioning how amazing the final was today," said Tsitsipas, 27. "It's been a long time so it does mean a lot to me."
Tsitsipas was dominant on serve throughout the final, firing four aces without a single double fault. He won 21 of 29 second-serve points and saved two of the four break points he faced, demonstrating the composure that had eluded him during his lengthy drought.
This is the sixth clay-court title of Tsitsipas' career, adding to an impressive resume on the surface that includes three Monte Carlo Masters crowns (2021, 2022, 2024) and trophies in Estoril (2023) and Barcelona (2025). The Swiss Open, played at altitude in the Alpine resort of Gstaad, has been a staple of the ATP 250 calendar since 1915.
Collignon, 24, was contesting his first ATP final and entered the match with nothing to lose. The Belgian, ranked 42nd in the world, showed considerable fight to take the second-set tie-break 7-3 after dropping the opener, forcing a decider against the more experienced Greek.
But Tsitsipas, a two-time Grand Slam finalist, found another gear in the third set. He broke early and managed the match expertly behind his first serve, closing out the victory in one hour and 58 minutes.
"It's been an incredible week," Tsitsipas added. "Gstaad is a special place and the crowd have been fantastic. This title gives me great confidence for the rest of the season."
The win boosts Tsitsipas' chances of qualifying for the ATP Finals in Turin later this year and positions him as a dangerous float in the US Open draw, which begins on 31 August.
