Alexander Zverev sealed the Laver Cup for Team Europe with a 7-6(3), 6-3 victory over Learner Tien at The O2 in London on Sunday, completing a dominant 13-5 win over Team World and delivering the trophy to captain Yannick Noah for the second consecutive year.
Team Europe entered the final day holding a narrow 7-5 lead after two days of competition. They needed just two wins from Sunday's four matches — each worth three points — to reclaim the title they lost to Team World in San Francisco last year. It took them barely two matches to get the job done.
The new pairing of Flavio Cobolli and Jakub Mensik opened Sunday's session with a 7-5, 6-3 doubles win over Alex de Minaur and Taylor Fritz, pushing Europe to 10-5 and within touching distance of glory. That result meant Zverev, the reigning Roland Garros and US Open champion, only needed to beat Tien to clinch it — with Carlos Alcaraz waiting in reserve should things go wrong.
They did not. Zverev saved a set point at 5-5 in the opener before controlling the tiebreak, then broke Tien early in the second set and served it out in one hour and 49 minutes. When the final ball landed, Alcaraz never had to take the court.
"I haven't won a Laver Cup match in two years, so I'm happy I did it today," Zverev said. "Massive credit to the entire Team World. They pushed us all the way again. They were champions last year. This year, I think we had a great team. We have a great team chemistry. It was a team effort."
It was the fourth time Zverev has sealed the Laver Cup for Team Europe — following Chicago in 2018, Geneva in 2019 and Boston in 2021 — making him the event's all-time leading scorer with 26 points. The 29-year-old German has been part of all six of Europe's victories and owns the most singles wins at the event with eight.
"Winning as a team — there's no better feeling in sports," Zverev said. "We don't have enough of it in tennis. Being among these great players you normally see across the net every single week, it's just fun being out here."
Tien, 20, was making his Team World debut in what has been a breakthrough season that saw him reach his first Grand Slam quarterfinal at the Australian Open. The left-hander won his first singles match on Day 2 when he beat Cobolli 6-3, 2-6, 10-7, and pushed Zverev hard in the opening set before the world No. 2's quality told.
Team World captain Andre Agassi, in his first year in charge, watched his side fight throughout the three-day event but ultimately come up short. Noah, who lost to Agassi's team in his first season as captain last year, exacted immediate revenge.
The victory gives Team Europe their sixth Laver Cup title. They won the inaugural edition in 2017 and claimed subsequent crowns in 2018, 2019, 2021 and 2024, with Team World taking the trophy in 2022, 2023 and 2025.
