Un comitato disciplinare indipendente ha inflitto una giornata di squalifica e un richiamo formale a Gonzalo Quesada, commissario tecnico dell'Italia, per commenti critici verso gli arbitri dopo la sconfitta con la Nuova Zelanda nel Nations Championship del weekend precedente. La decisione e stata ratificata da World Rugby con un comunicato dedicato il 17 luglio 2026.
Il nuovo Match Official Abuse Sanction Process ha guidato il procedimento, concepito per tutelare la figura dell'arbitro da pressioni e attacchi pubblici. Quesada paga cosi l'esternazione post-partita, che aveva acceso il dibattito sull'operato della direzione di gara.
Per l'Italia la sanzione arriva in un momento di crescita del movimento, reduce da un torneo nel quale gli Azzurri hanno mostrato progressi ma anche lacune expose nella gara con gli All Blacks. La squadra dovra fare a meno del proprio tecnico per una partita.
