La Juventus sembra impantanata tra la volontà di rinforzare il centrocampo e l'impossibilità di cedere i numerosi esuberi, con un reparto affollatissimo ma che fornisce pochissime certezze in vista della prossima stagione.
L'allenatore Luciano Spalletti, al momento, può contare su due sole sicurezze in mezzo al campo: Manuel Locatelli e Weston McKennie. Il capitano, fresco di rinnovo, ha evidenziato una notevole crescita, ma palesa ancora un deficit di leadership. L'americano, grazie alla cura di Spalletti, si è trasformato in un micidiale incursore. Tutto intorno, però, c'è il vuoto.
Khephren Thuam ha iniziato la stagione ai box per i postumi della sindrome femoro-rotulea. Douglas Luiz non ha dato segnali confortanti: gli infortuni delle ultime due stagioni lo hanno reso troppo lento. Teun Koopmeiners non s'è visto in campo quest'estate, e il peso delle responsabilità lo ha schiacciato. Adzic non ha alternative a un prestito formativo, Arthur è ormai un esubero da troppi anni, mentre Miretti, pur giunto a un segnale con il gol su punizione contro lo Standard Liege, ha difficoltà in uscita che ne fanno uno dei principali indiziati al sacrificio.
La Juve si ritrova con un reparto extralarge e difficile da sfoltire, ma con l'estrema necessità di rinforzare.

Khephren Thuram began pre-season on the sidelines after the femoro-rotulea syndrome that limited him late last campaign. Douglas Luiz has shown no encouraging signs: the Brazilian possesses enviable technique, but recurring injuries over the past two seasons have left him operating well below the level required at the top. Teun Koopmeiners has not been seen on the pitch this summer, and his two years in Turin have made clear that the weight of expectation has crushed him. Youngster Adzic has no alternative other than a formative loan, while Arthur Michele has been an unwanted surplus for too long. Finally, Giovanni Miretti sent a signal with a free-kick goal against Standard Liege, but his difficulties in playing out from the back make him one of the leading candidates to be sacrificed for budgetary reasons.
The Bianconeri are left with an oversized midfield unit, extremely difficult to trim, while the need to strengthen remains acute.
