The EuroLeague has officially confirmed Abu Dhabi as the host of its first-ever Basketball SuperCup, with the new four-team competition scheduled for September 18-19 at Etihad Arena on Yas Island.
Olympiacos, Fenerbahce, Real Madrid and Dubai Basketball will compete across two days in a Final Four format to crown the first SuperCup champion. The event will serve as the curtain-raiser to the 2026-27 EuroLeague season.
The draw pits defending EuroLeague champion Olympiacos against 2024-25 titleholder Fenerbahce in the first semifinal on Friday, September 18, at 4:00 pm local time. Dubai Basketball, making their competitive debut at home, face 2026 EuroLeague finalist Real Madrid in the evening semifinal at 7:00 pm. Saturday's programme features the third-place match at 4:00 pm and the final at 7:00 pm.
"The launch of the Euroleague SuperCup marks an exciting new chapter for European club basketball," said EuroLeague president Dejan Bodiroga. "We are delighted to partner with DCT Abu Dhabi for the inaugural edition of this competition, which will bring together some of the most successful clubs to celebrate the start of a new season."
EuroLeague CEO Chus Bueno said the competition was designed to expand the league's international reach. "The Euroleague SuperCup reflects our ambition to continue innovating and expanding the reach of European club basketball. Launching this new competition in Abu Dhabi enables us to engage new audiences while providing fans, clubs and partners with a premium event that showcases the very best of our sport."
The SuperCup represents a change from the format originally envisioned for the competition. The initial concept would have paired the reigning EuroLeague champion with the previous season's champion, the regular-season winner and the EuroCup champion. That idea was scrapped in favour of the four-team lineup now confirmed.
For Abu Dhabi, the event adds another milestone to its growing basketball portfolio. The emirate hosted NBA pre-season games, the 2025 EuroLeague Final Four, and holds the contract for the 2027 Final Four, though that venue has not yet been officially confirmed by the EuroLeague.
Full event package tickets are already on sale through Etihad Arena, with single-day tickets available from August 31.
