Aston Villa have agreed a deal to sign Alejandro Garnacho from Chelsea on an initial loan with a conditional obligation to make the move permanent, bringing an end to weeks of speculation linking the Argentine winger with a switch to Serie A.
According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, the 22-year-old has already completed his medical and is in Birmingham to put pen to paper on the final documents. Once the obligation is triggered, Garnacho will sign a four-year contract with Unai Emery's side.
The winger joined Chelsea from Manchester United last summer for a fee in the region of £40 million, but after an inconsistent season at Stamford Bridge and a squad reshuffle under the new management, the London club were open to parting ways. Garnacho had not reported for pre-season training in order to facilitate a move, and several clubs across Europe registered their interest.
Roma, Napoli and Milan were all linked with the former Manchester United academy product, but his wage demands proved a significant obstacle for the Italian clubs, who were unable to structure a deal that met both the player's financial expectations and Chelsea's valuation. Villa moved quickly once the opportunity arose, offering a structure that satisfied all parties.
The deal is part of a busy summer window at Villa Park, with the club reshaping their squad after qualifying for European competition. Garnacho's arrival adds pace, directness and versatility to Emery's attacking options — the Argentine can operate on either wing or as a forward, giving the Spanish coach tactical flexibility across competitions.
Garnacho, who made his senior debut for Manchester United as a teenager and won the FA Cup with the club before his move to Chelsea, has also earned caps for the Argentina national team. His Chelsea stint yielded several Premier League appearances but never quite delivered the consistency expected of him, making this fresh start at Villa a pivotal moment in his career.
