Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team) has undergone a successful endoscopic fasciotomy on his right forearm — commonly known as arm pump surgery. The operation took place on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at the Orthopaedic Clinic of the Policlinico di Modena, performed by the medical team led by Professor Luigi Tarallo and directed by Professor Fabio Catani. No complications were reported. The surgery was strategically timed during the MotoGP summer break to give the Italian rider adequate time for a full recovery and scheduled rehabilitation.
The stated goal from the Ducati team is to return to action at the Qatar Airways Grand Prix of Great Britain at Silverstone, scheduled for August 7–9, 2026. The calendar provides a window of nearly four weeks before the next race, allowing Bagnaia to follow the rehabilitation protocol without undue pressure. Endoscopic fasciotomy is a minimally invasive procedure that addresses chronic compartment syndrome of the forearm — a common issue among MotoGP riders that causes numbness and loss of grip strength in the right hand during the most demanding phases of a race.
The two-time world champion ended the first half of the season with a sixth-place finish at the German Grand Prix at the Sachsenring, a result below expectations for a rider of his caliber. He currently sits eighth in the world championship standings with 143 points, 65 behind leader Jorge Martin. Despite an inconsistent start to the season, Bagnaia has responded by stringing together four consecutive Sunday podiums — second at Barcelona, a home victory at Mugello, second at Assen, and second at the Sachsenring — as well as a Sprint victory at the Czech Grand Prix.
