Gleison Bremer has turned down a lucrative move to Galatasaray and will remain at Juventus, where he intends to prove himself worthy of a starting role under new head coach Luciano Spalletti.
The Brazilian centre-back had been the subject of a long-running pursuit by the Turkish champions, who reached a basic agreement with Juventus over a transfer fee. Galatasaray offered Bremer a contract worth €8 million net per season, but the 29-year-old has ultimately decided against the switch.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Bremer reported for pre-season training two days early — an emphatic statement of intent as he looks to win over Spalletti, who is reshaping the Juventus defence ahead of the new campaign. The former Torino and Atletico Mineiro defender is determined to show he still belongs in Turin.
Bremer's decision creates a domino effect in the summer transfer market. Juventus had planned to sell the Brazilian in order to finance a move for Bologna and Colombia international Jhon Lucumi, whom they identified as his natural replacement. Now, with Bremer staying put, the Bianconeri's recruitment strategy faces a complication.
Bologna value Lucumi at €25 million, and while Juventus hoped to include midfielder Fabio Miretti as a makeweight in any deal, the Rossoblu are said to prefer a straight cash transaction. Galatasaray, meanwhile, are now expected to pivot back to Lucumi as their primary defensive target after failing to land Bremer.
The situation leaves all three clubs in a delicate negotiating dance. For Juventus, keeping a motivated Bremer while still potentially pursuing Lucumi would require creative financial engineering.
