The Court of Brescia declared the judicial liquidation (bankruptcy) of Brescia Calcio on July 28, the 70th birthday of president Massimo Cellino. A dramatic epilogue for a club founded 114 years ago, with a long history between Serie A and Serie B.
The club had already been excluded from professional leagues for financial non-compliance, with total debt estimated at around €20 million. Cellino announced an appeal, citing an error of interpretation.
Particularly significant is the Sandro Tonali matter: the approximately €4 million that Brescia should have received from the solidarity fund for the midfielder's transfer to Tottenham will instead go to a FIFA fund — another heavy blow for the club's finances.
