Chelsea have reached an agreement with Aston Villa to sign Morgan Rogers in a record-breaking £117m deal, making the 23-year-old attacking midfielder the most expensive English player of all time. Rogers has agreed personal terms on a six-year contract and will undergo a medical on Monday 20 July.
The Blues moved swiftly to beat Arsenal to the signing, securing Xabi Alonso's primary summer transfer target. The deal was funded by the sales of Marc Cucurella to Real Madrid and Andrey Santos to Manchester United.
Rogers joined Villa from Middlesbrough in January 2024 for a fee of around £15m including add-ons. Over two and a half seasons he blossomed into a world-class talent, registering 14 goals and 12 assists last season while helping Villa qualify for the Champions League and win the Europa League. He also featured prominently for England at the 2026 World Cup, starting the semi-final defeat to Argentina and providing the assist for Anthony Gordon's opening goal.
