Wales claimed the gold medal in the women's team sprint at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, on the opening night of track cycling at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome. Emma Finucane (Olympic champion), Lowri Thomas, and Rhian Edmunds defeated England (Katy Marchant, Sophia Capewell, Rhianna Parris-Smith) by 0.141 seconds, setting a new Games record (46.760s).
It is Wales' first track cycling gold at Glasgow 2026. In the same session, James Ball and Matt Rotherham won silver in the Tandem B 1,000m, and Ciara Oliva took bronze in the women's team pursuit, completing a memorable evening for the Welsh delegation.
The Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome was sold out for the opening day of track events.
