Cruz Hewitt, the 17-year-old son of former world No. 1 and 2002 Wimbledon champion Lleyton Hewitt, has claimed his first ATP victory on his main draw debut at the Washington Open, an ATP 500 event.
The young Australian defeated American Marcos Giron 6-3 6-4 in 74 minutes on the same court where his father triumphed in 2004. After the match, Cruz celebrated with his father's trademark bicep gesture.
In the next round, Hewitt could face fellow Australian Alex De Minaur, the top seed and defending champion — a potential test for the rising talent.
