The 24-year-old arrives in Baja California Sur after a highly productive clay-court season that brought three finals and one title. Darderi now turns his focus to hard courts with the aim of breaking back into the world's top 20, and Los Cabos offers a favourable starting point. The Italian, known for his heavy topspin forehand and relentless baseline game, has been working on adapting his game to the faster surfaces that dominate the summer calendar.
Thanks to his seeding, Darderi receives a first-round bye and will open his tournament against either Dalibor Svrcina or Adam Walton in the second round. The Italian's projected quarter-final opponent is defending champion Denis Shapovalov, the tournament's No. 8 seed, who begins his title defence against Rinky Hijikata.
