German MotoGP sets fifth straight Sachsenring attendance record with 261,831 fans

The German Grand Prix delivered another landmark weekend for MotoGP, with 261,831 spectators passing through the gates of the Sachsenring - a new attendance record for the round and the first time it has broken through the 260,000 barrier.

The figure, confirmed by organisers on 13 July, marks the fifth consecutive attendance record for the German World Championship round, and the boom at the historic circuit near Hohenstein-Ernstthal shows no sign of levelling off. The weekend's total breaks down into 70,754 fans across Thursday and Friday, 92,654 on Saturday and 98,423 on race day, when the grandstands were completely sold out.

ADAC Sports President Dr Gerd Ennser hailed the event as a celebration of motorsport culture. "Enthusiasm for the Motorcycle Grand Prix reached new heights this weekend. 261,831 visitors celebrated a peaceful motorsport festival," he said. Ennser noted that the event's fan culture has been officially recognised as part of Saxony's cultural heritage this year, adding: "With this peaceful motorsport festival, the visitors have impressively demonstrated what this culture means."

The record cements the Sachsenring's status as Germany's second-largest single sporting event, drawing more spectators than Wimbledon and trailing only the 24 Hours of the Nürburgring. "We look forward to being here every year. There's a fantastic atmosphere at the Sachsenring," Ennser added, praising the support of the Free State of Saxony.

The round's long-term future also looks secure. ADAC Head of Motorsport Thomas Voss said the commercial rights holders want the German race to stay at the Sachsenring specifically: "When you speak to those in charge at Dorna or Liberty Media, you get the sense that they don't just want a Grand Prix in Germany. They want this Grand Prix to take place at the Sachsenring." The current contract runs beyond 2031, with officials on both sides working to extend the event's place on the calendar.

Summery weather and close racing contributed to the festive atmosphere around the circuit, and the weekend passed off peacefully from start to finish.
