Hapoel Tel Aviv sign Eugene German on one-year deal

Hapoel IBI Tel Aviv have completed the signing of American guard Eugene German, the club announced on Saturday, with the 28-year-old joining on a one-year contract through the end of the 2026-27 season.

German arrives in Israel after a season split between China and Puerto Rico. He began the 2025-26 campaign with the Beijing Ducks of the Chinese Basketball Association, averaging 18.3 points, 4.8 assists and 3.1 rebounds per game while shooting 40.1 per cent from three-point range, and finished the year with Indios de Mayagüez, where he posted 17.4 points, 4.5 assists and 3.5 rebounds across eight appearances.

The 1.83m guard spent four seasons in the CBA overall, suiting up for the Qingdao Eagles, Fujian Sturgeons and Beijing Ducks and averaging 24 points, 5.1 assists and 4.4 rebounds in 175 regular-season games, according to Xinhua. He helped Beijing reach the CBA Finals in 2025 and the semi-finals last season. Before moving to China, German came through Northern Illinois University, where he finished as the programme's all-time leading scorer with 2,312 career points and earned three All-MAC selections, having started his professional career with Ionikos in Greece and Merkezefendi in Turkey.

German will make his EuroLeague debut with Hapoel under head coach Dimitris Itoudis, who praised the newcomer's versatility: “I am very happy that we have added such a talented player to our guard positions. Eugene is a player who knows how to create points in several ways and contribute in many different areas. He is aware of the step forward he is taking in his career and is highly motivated to join the family and continue improving his game alongside our excellent roster.”

The player himself said: “I’m really excited to join this organization and become part of this team. I’ve heard all about the fans, and you can expect me to bring energy every time I step on the court and give it everything I’ve got. Let’s win a championship together. Yalla Hapoel.”

General manager George Hinas described German as a well-known scorer, a great competitor and an aggressive ball handler whose positive energy will add another dimension to the club's backcourt, which already features the likes of Tomas Satoransky, Khadeen Carrington and Amir Coffey.
