Fermin Aldeguer will miss the British Grand Prix, with Gresini Racing confirming on Friday that the Spanish rider remains sidelined for the 12th round of the MotoGP World Championship at Silverstone on 9 August. Iker Lecuona will take over the Ducati number 54, making his second stand-in appearance of the season.
Aldeguer has not raced since crashing in practice at Assen at the end of June, when he fractured his T7 vertebra at the Dutch circuit's Duikersloot corner. He missed both races in the Netherlands as well as the German Grand Prix that closed the first half of the season, and his recovery has proved more lengthy than hoped — two full months will have passed between the crash and his comeback.
"Fermin Aldeguer will not compete at Silverstone for the 12th round of the MotoGP World Championship," read a Gresini statement. "The Spanish rider will remain on the sidelines as a precaution. However, he has received medical clearance to resume training from August 15, with Team Gresini set to welcome him back at Aragon in around a month's time."
