John Stones has reached a verbal agreement with Inter Milan for a two-year contract worth €4 million net per season, according to Sky Sport Italia transfer pundit Gianluca Di Marzio.
The 32-year-old England international became a free agent on June 30 after Manchester City allowed his contract to run down, bringing an end to a decade-long spell at the Etihad that yielded multiple Premier League titles and a Champions League crown.
Juventus had also held negotiations with Stones and made an approach, but Inter returned with an improved proposal that convinced the centre-back to move to San Siro. Chelsea and Arsenal were also monitoring the situation, but Stones preferred a new challenge in Serie A after 10 years in English football.
Stones, who turned 32 in May, was a regular in the England side that claimed the bronze medal at the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico. Because England went all the way to the semi-finals, he is still on vacation and a medical has not yet been scheduled.
Inter moved swiftly to secure Stones after releasing Francesco Acerbi and Matteo Darmian at the end of their contracts, leaving a gap in the defensive department. The Nerazzurri are also pursuing Tottenham Hotspur defender Cristian Romero, hoping to strike a deal worth around €40 million for the Argentine.
If both deals go through, Inter would field three former Premier League defenders, with Manuel Akanji having already joined from Manchester City last summer.
