Five-time MotoGP world champion Jorge Lorenzo has analyzed Marc Marquez's sensational comeback in the 2026 title fight, identifying three anti-clockwise circuits that serve as aces up the Ducati rider's sleeve.
Speaking on his Duralavita podcast, as reported by Motosan, Lorenzo explained that Aragon, Phillip Island, and Valencia give Marquez an 80–90% winning advantage due to their predominance of left-hand corners, which historically favor the Spanish rider.
Reigning champion Marquez was 102 points off the championship lead after his first race back from nerve surgery in May at the Italian Grand Prix. Since then, he has won three of four grands prix and two Sprints, clawing back 84 points in just four rounds. He now sits just 18 points behind championship leader Jorge Martin, with five contenders separated by only 24 points.
"The Ducati rider has three trump cards that the others don't have — those three circuits with an anti-clockwise layout," Lorenzo said. "First Aragon, then Phillip Island at the end, and Valencia, which happens to be the last round. If he gets there with the classification very close, he could have a significant competitive advantage."
Marquez's affinity for left-hand corners is most obvious at the Sachsenring, where only three of thirteen corners are right-handers. He just won his 10th premier class grand prix there (13th across all categories), equaling Giacomo Agostini's record at Imatra for most wins at a single circuit.
Aragon is perhaps Marquez's strongest venue: he has eight total victories there, seven in MotoGP, including four consecutive wins between 2016 and 2019. Phillip Island has historically been a happy hunting ground. Valencia, while a venue where Marquez hasn't raced since 2023, remains a track where he has three wins across all classes.
Lorenzo added: "On circuits with right-hand corners, however, things are much more even. This championship is becoming super interesting."
With the second half of the season promising intense battles and Marquez in blistering form, the 2026 MotoGP title sprint promises thrills down to the final corner.
