Luka Modric has reached a full agreement with AC Milan to extend his contract for a further season, committing to the Rossoneri until June 2027.
The Croatia international, who turns 41 in September, will earn €3.5 million per season plus performance-related bonuses under the terms of the new deal, according to multiple sources including Fabrizio Romano and MilanNews.
Modric joined Milan as a free agent in the summer of 2025 following a legendary decade-long spell at Real Madrid, where he won the Ballon d'Or in 2018 and lifted five Champions League titles. His first season at San Siro proved he remains a high-level performer: 37 appearances across all competitions, two goals and three assists, despite missing several weeks with a fractured cheekbone.
The veteran midfielder had kept his future open during the 2026 World Cup, hinting he might consider retirement. But after helping Croatia reach the knockout stages before elimination by Portugal, Modric decided to extend his playing career rather than hang up his boots.
According to reports, the agreement is a "done deal" and only requires the official signature, which is expected later this week. Modric is then set to join his teammates for Milan's pre-season tour of Australia.
The one-year extension represents a significant boost for new Milan head coach Ruben Amorim, who will rely on Modric's experience in midfield as the club looks to close the gap at the top of Serie A and return to Champions League football. Modric is also expected to retire from international duty in October, with Croatia's Nations League match against Spain on 6 October tipped as his farewell appearance for the national team.
