Marc Marquez made it six sprint wins in a row with a controlled victory in Saturday's Austrian Grand Prix sprint at the Red Bull Ring, easing past brother Alex to claim his first MotoGP win of any kind at Spielberg.
Starting fourth, Marquez was the beneficiary of a slow launch from polesitter Marco Bezzecchi, who was immediately swamped by the Marquez brothers. Alex led the early exchanges as the pair broke clear of the chasing pack, and for nine laps it looked as though the younger sibling might hold on. On lap 10 Marc pounced, taking advantage of Alex being unsettled on the exit kerb out of Turn 2 to dive through at Turn 3. From there he streaked clear, taking the chequered flag 1.180s ahead of his brother's Gresini Ducati.
The result was Marquez's first MotoGP win of any kind at the Red Bull Ring and his sixth consecutive sprint victory, leaving him 123 points clear of Alex at the top of the standings. Pedro Acosta completed the podium for home manufacturer KTM, clearing Bezzecchi's Aprilia early on to seal a third successive rostrum finish across sprints and grands prix. Bezzecchi took fourth ahead of Brad Binder, while Gresini rookie Fermin Aldeguer won a race-long duel with Enea Bastianini for sixth. Fabio Di Giannantonio and Johann Zarco - the only rider on the medium rear tyre - claimed the final points, Zarco holding off reigning champion Jorge Martin on the last lap.
