Marco Bezzecchi, an Aprilia Racing rider, has undergone a routine cleaning procedure on his left knee following a heavy crash during Q2 at the German Grand Prix, held at the Sachsenring from July 10 to 12, 2026.
The crash also resulted in a fractured collarbone for Bezzecchi, which was successfully operated on the day after the race. However, the wound on his left knee required an additional cleaning procedure, described as "routine" by Aprilia Racing. The Italian team confirmed that the rider has already returned home after the procedure and is continuing his rehabilitation ahead of the next race.
"Bezzecchi underwent a routine procedure this morning to clean the wound on his left knee, an injury sustained during his crash at Sachsenring," read a statement from Aprilia Racing. "He has already returned home and will continue his rehabilitation ahead of the Silverstone GP."
The British Grand Prix is scheduled to take place at Silverstone from August 7 to 9, 2026. Bezzecchi is aiming to return by that date, hoping to reverse a negative trend that has seen him drop from first to fourth place in the MotoGP World Championship standings.
The #72 rider's difficult streak began right after his victory at Mugello in May 2026. Since then, Bezzecchi has failed to finish a Sunday race, collecting points only in Saturday Sprint races. In the last four grands prix, he has scored just 13 points — a meager tally that has caused his championship slide.
Bezzecchi currently sits fourth in the standings, 22 points behind his teammate Jorge Martin, the championship leader. The gap is even more striking considering that after the Italian Grand Prix, the Aprilia rider led the championship with a 102-point advantage over Marc Marquez, who now sits three points ahead of him in the standings.
Despite the difficult moment, Aprilia remains confident in their rider's recovery. Bezzecchi has already shown his ability to bounce back from tough situations, and the goal is to return to competitive form at Silverstone, where in 2025 he secured his first victory with Aprilia.
