Marc Marquez and Alex Marquez have been honoured with the prestigious "Siete Estrellas del Deporte" (Seven Stars of Sport) award by the Comunidad de Madrid, a recognition granted to individual athletes who have distinguished themselves through their sporting achievements and contribution to the development of sport in the region.
The ceremony took place in Madrid before the brothers departed for their summer break on Menorca, where they are spending the MotoGP summer recess training and enjoying well-earned rest. The award covers both the 2024 and 2025 cycles.
The Marquez brothers represent one of the most successful dynasties in motorcycle racing history. Marc Marquez, born in 1993, has won nine world titles, seven of them in the premier MotoGP class, establishing himself as one of the most dominant riders of all time. Alex Marquez, born in 1996, was Moto3 world champion in 2014 and Moto2 world champion in 2019, demonstrating extraordinary talent that earned him a place at the highest level.
The official citation for the award highlights how the two brothers have built "one of the most successful dynasties in the history of motorcycle sport," combining talent, perseverance, discipline and a strong family bond.
Alongside the Marquez brothers, other sporting greats were also recognised. Sergio Rodriguez, better known as "El Chacho", the former Real Madrid basketball star and now the club's sporting director, was honoured for 2024. In the women's category, Maria Perez received the 2024 award after winning Olympic gold in the mixed race-walking relay and silver over 20 km at Paris 2024. For 2025, the women's award went to Blanca Hervas, who claimed two medals at the World Indoor Championships in Turin.
Marc Marquez arrives at this recognition fresh from his victory at the German Grand Prix, his 13th Grand Prix win. Despite a difficult start to the season, trailing leader Bezzecchi by 102 points before the Hungary GP, the Ducati rider has mounted a remarkable comeback and now sits just 18 points off the championship lead. Alex Marquez, who will move to the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing team in 2027, currently holds ninth place in the standings.
