Two Wheels for Life, the official MotoGP charity, has announced a standout lot for its annual GP of Champions auction at the British Grand Prix: a one-of-a-kind Dainese replica suit honouring two-time world champion Barry Sheene, marking 50 years since his first premier-class title in 1976.
The custom Dainese leathers were worn by Freddie Sheene — Barry's son — across four days at the 2026 Goodwood Festival of Speed, where he rode a selection of his father's iconic motorcycles. The suit has also been signed by motorcycle legends Steve Parrish and three-time world champion Kenny Roberts.
Freddie will attend the auction in person at Silverstone on Saturday, August 8, where the suit will be the centrepiece of the annual Two Wheels for Life fundraising event. "It'll be fitting to hold the auction for Two Wheels for Life at Silverstone as I know the circuit played host to some of my father's most memorable races," Freddie said. "Let's hope the suit finds a good new home, for a great bid!"
The GP of Champions has become the largest charity event on the MotoGP calendar, with last year's edition raising £170,000. The most coveted lot in 2025 was a pair of Marc Marquez's race-worn Alpinestars boots, which sold for €6,500.
Andrea Coleman, founder and CEO of Two Wheels for Life, said the Silverstone location pays tribute to one of the greatest races in history: the legendary 1979 duel between Sheene and Roberts at the same circuit. "It seems so fitting that we will all be able to remember and celebrate the glorious race between Barry and Kenny Roberts at that truly iconic circuit."
Barry Sheene, who won back-to-back world championships in 1976 and 1977, was an early collaborator with Dainese and played a key role in developing the modern back protector that is now standard safety equipment both on track and on the road.
Dainese created a full 2026 'Custom Works' suit for Freddie as a tribute to that partnership. "I travelled over to Dainese's HQ in Italy early April to get measured for the suit," Freddie recalled. "It was so cool to see my father's old leathers and photos of him everywhere, and it was an honour to meet Lino Dainese, who my father worked so closely."
All proceeds from the auction support Two Wheels for Life's Riders for Health programmes, which use motorcycles to deliver life-saving medical care to remote communities across Africa. The charity has operated in close partnership with MotoGP for years, leveraging the sport's global platform to fund transport-for-healthcare initiatives in underserved regions.
