Napoli agree €30m Gutierrez sale to Bayer Leverkusen with medical set for early next week

Napoli have reached a full agreement with Bayer Leverkusen over the permanent sale of left-back Miguel Gutierrez, just one year after the Spaniard arrived from Girona. The Bundesliga club will pay €30m including bonuses, according to reports from Gianluca Di Marzio, Fabrizio Romano and other Italian outlets.

The move represents a capital gain for Napoli, who spent €18m plus up to €2m in add-ons to sign the 25-year-old from Girona last summer. Gutierrez went on to make 36 appearances in all competitions during the 2025-26 season, 28 of them in Serie A, establishing himself as a regular on the left flank of Antonio Conte's side.

Gutierrez is expected to undergo his medical with Bayer Leverkusen in the early stages of next week, most likely on Monday or Tuesday. Once he passes the tests he will sign a contract that ties him to the German club, where he is set to take over from Alejandro Grimaldo, who left for Atletico Madrid earlier this summer after three years in the Bundesliga.

For Leverkusen, the signing bolsters a key position on the left side of the defence, with the club moving quickly to strengthen the squad ahead of the new campaign. The German outfit accelerated talks to get the deal over the line as they look to refresh the back line after Grimaldo's departure.

From Napoli's perspective, the sale frees up resources for the transfer market: the €30m raised can be reinvested to complete the squad, including for the other negotiations still in progress. Gutierrez's exit also creates space and budget for new arrivals, in line with the club's plans for the remainder of the summer window.

An official announcement has not yet been made, but the agreement between the clubs is in place: only the medical and the paperwork remain, with the signing expected within the next few days.
