Napoli have confirmed that defender Alessandro Buongiorno will require a delicate surgical operation to repair the meniscus root in his right knee, ruling him out for several months.
The 27-year-old had struggled with knee issues towards the end of last season and had initially hoped to resolve the problem through conservative treatment. However, when he arrived for pre-season tests, it was decided he should undergo consultation with a specialist in Barcelona.
