San Marino Challenger 2026: high-level entry list and three wild cards for young Italians

The 33rd edition of the San Marino Open gets underway on July 26, with the ATP Challenger 125 event featuring a strong entry list and three wild cards awarded to young Italian talents.

The tournament, which carries a prize purse of $203,900, runs through August 2 at the Centro Tennis Cassa di Risparmio di Fonte dell'Ovo. Top seed and first seed Facundo Diaz Acosta heads the draw, with the Argentine currently just outside the Top 100 after winning four Challenger titles already in 2026. Other notable seeds include Hugo Dellien, Otto Virtanen, Vilius Gaubas, Nikoloz Basilashvili, Alexandre Muller, and Pedro Martinez.

The Italian contingent features Andrea Pellegrino, the 2023 finalist who impressed at the Internazionali BNL d'Italia by reaching the round of 16. Francesco Maestrelli and Marco Cecchinato also lead the home charge, with Cecchinato having won the tournament in 2013 on his way to a historic Roland Garros semifinal in 2018 and a career-high ranking of world No. 16.

Three young Italians received wild cards into the main draw: Jacopo Vasamì, the 18-year-old former ITF Junior world No. 2; Filippo Romano, a 21-year-old from Sarzana; and Carlo Alberto Caniato, a 20-year-old who trains at Villa Carpena in Forlì. Luca Nardi withdrew at the last minute due to an adductor injury.

The main draw draw takes place on Saturday at 18:00. For the first time, the tournament will feature electronic line calling instead of line judges, and matches will be broadcast on SuperTennis from Tuesday and on San Marino Rtv from Thursday.
