The 33rd edition of the San Marino Open, an ATP Challenger 125 event with a $203,900 prize pool, returns from July 26 to August 2 at the Centro Tennis Cassa di Risparmio di Fonte dell'Ovo, one of the most anticipated Challenger tournaments of the summer.
Tournament director Nicola Lombardini announced the three main-draw wild cards during the press conference, all assigned to emerging Italian talents recommended by national team captain Filippo Volandri. Jacopo Vasamì, 18, a former ITF Junior world No. 2 regarded as one of Italy's brightest prospects, headlines the wild-card recipients. Filippo Romano, 21, from Sarzana, arrives after a breakthrough ITF season, while Carlo Alberto Caniato, 20, from Forlì, has climbed to the edge of the ATP top 500.
"These are three young players who have already competed at Challenger level," Lombardini said. "Recommended to us by captain Volandri, they are capable of performing well. Our aim is to give them a deserving stage to showcase their talent and potentially launch their careers."
