Dominic Thiem claimed the 150th clay-court victory of his career by defeating Federico Delbonis 7-6(6), 6-3 on Wednesday, July 15 at the Swiss Open in Gstaad, booking his place in the quarterfinals.
The 2020 US Open champion, who returned in April from a nine-month layoff with a right wrist injury, has dramatically overturned the poor start to his comeback: after going 0-6 in his first six events back, he reached the quarterfinals in Bastad last week and now makes his second straight last-eight appearance in Gstaad.
With today's win, Thiem becomes the 10th active player to reach 150 career clay-court wins (150-58) and the first man born in 1990 or later to do so. In the ATP rankings he jumped from No. 339 to No. 274 on the strength of Bastad and, with his run in Gstaad, is projected to climb back toward the top 200.
