The United States Tennis Association has released the official entry list for the 2026 US Open, with ten Italian players set to compete in the year's final Grand Slam at Flushing Meadows from August 30 to September 13.
World No. 1 and defending champion Jannik Sinner headlines an Italian men's contingent of eight players, a record representation for Italy at the US Open in the Open Era. Sinner, who claimed his first Grand Slam title in New York in 2024, returns as the top seed after a dominant season on hard courts.
Flavio Cobolli, fresh off a career-best year, is slated as the No. 9 seed, reflecting his rapid rise in the ATP rankings. Lorenzo Musetti, a quarterfinalist in New York in 2025, is seeded 15th and brings his trademark one-handed backhand to the big stage. Luciano Darderi (No. 21), Matteo Arnaldi (No. 33), and Matteo Berrettini (No. 42) — a former semifinalist at Flushing Meadows in 2019 — give the Italian contingent formidable depth. Lorenzo Sonego, appearing in his eighth US Open, and Mattia Bellucci round out the men's draw for Italy.
On the women's side, Jasmine Paolini and Elisabetta Cocciaretto will represent Italy. Paolini, who reached the fourth round in 2024, continues her impressive run as a top contender on hard courts, while Cocciaretto returns for her fourth US Open appearance.
The entry list also features notable names returning from injury. Carlos Alcaraz, a two-time US Open champion (2022, 2025), has been listed despite recovering from a wrist injury that has kept him sidelined since April. The Spaniard has removed his wrist brace but has yet to resume full-intensity training; he is also entered in the Cincinnati Masters starting August 8. Holger Rune, who has not played since rupturing his Achilles tendon during the Stockholm semifinal in October 2025, is also on the list, making a long-awaited comeback.
With ten Italians in the field, the 2026 US Open shapes up as a landmark tournament for Italian tennis, matching the depth and quality that has propelled the nation to the forefront of the sport.
