USA Basketball has completed the makeup of its technical staff for the next Olympic cycle: Mark Daigneault, J.B. Bickerstaff and Mark Few have been formally named assistant coaches on the staff led by Erik Spoelstra, who will serve as head coach of the men's national team for the first time at the 2027 and 2028 events. The appointments were approved by USA Basketball's Board of Directors on Thursday, July 16, 2026.
The three will support Spoelstra through the two marquee fixtures of the quadrennium: the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup in Qatar and the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. The selections were announced by Men's National Team managing director Grant Hill, who called the move "a huge step in terms of putting together the leadership team."
Daigneault, head coach of the Oklahoma City Thunder, has prior ties to the program, having worked with the U.S. teams that won the 2013 U19 World Cup and the 2014 FIBA Americas U18 title. Bickerstaff, who coaches the Detroit Pistons, is set to make his USA Basketball debut. Few, the long-serving Gonzaga coach and soon-to-be Basketball Hall of Famer, was already an assistant in the previous Olympic cycle under Steve Kerr, when the United States claimed a fifth consecutive gold at the 2024 Paris Games.
