Mathieu van der Poel won stage nine of the 2026 Tour de France, raced on Sunday 12 July from Malemort to Ussel, powering to victory in a four-rider sprint. The Dutchman of Alpecin-Premier Tech outkicked Norway's Tobias Johannessen (Uno-X Mobility) and Britain's Tom Pidcock (Pinarello-Q36.5) to claim his third career stage win at the Grande Boucle.
Van der Poel launched his effort with around 200 metres to go and held off his rivals, spreading his arms as he crossed the line in Ussel. The top three were all timed at 3 hours 27 minutes 51 seconds. The stage, originally planned at 185.5 km, was cut by about 30 km to 154.6 km because of extreme heat: the Corrèze department had been placed on red alert by French forecasters.
Defending champion Tadej Pogačar kept the yellow jersey. The Slovenian finished six seconds behind van der Poel in a group that also included two-time champion Jonas Vingegaard. Pogačar leads the general classification by 2 minutes 42 seconds over Vingegaard in second; his teammate Isaac del Toro is third at 3:27.
