Vardar Skopje beat KuPS 3-2 after extra time in the second leg of the Champions League first qualifying round, yet it was the Finnish champions who advanced to the second qualifying round on a 4-3 aggregate.
Trailing 2-0 from the first leg in Finland, Vardar forced extra time with a stirring comeback in Skopje, overturning the deficit on the night. But KuPS held their nerve across the 120 minutes and their two-goal cushion from the opener carried them through 4-3 on aggregate into the next stage of European football's top club competition.
KuPS now await the second qualifying round draw as they look to extend their continental campaign.
