Il corridore statunitense Brandon McNulty (UAE Emirates XRG, compagno del leader della corsa Tadej Pogačar) è stato vittima di un episodio di violenza stradale mentre si recava al via della tappa 16, una cronometro individuale del Tour de France 2026.
Il CEO della squadra, Mauro Gianetti, ha raccontato a Eurosport che un automobilista avrebbe affiancato McNulty, superandolo in modo aggressivo, per poi fermarsi bruscamente davanti a lui. Il corridore americano non è riuscito a evitare l'impatto ed è finito contro l'auto.
"Nulla di grave, ma non è stato piacevole", ha dichiarato Gianetti. Fortunatamente McNulty non ha riportato ferite ed è stato in grado di prendere regolarmente il via della cronometro, completando la tappa senza conseguenze fisiche.
L'automobilista sarebbe risultato essere un privato cittadino non affiliato in alcun modo alla corsa. L'episodio riaccende il dibattito sulla sicurezza dei ciclisti sulle strade durante i grandi eventi.

Brandon McNulty confronted by road rage driver before Tour de France time trial
American rider Brandon McNulty (UAE Emirates XRG, teammate of race leader Tadej Pogačar) was the victim of a road rage incident while travelling to the start of stage 16, an individual time trial at the 2026 Tour de France.
Team CEO Mauro Gianetti told Eurosport that a motorist overtook McNulty aggressively, then stopped abruptly in front of him. The American rider was unable to avoid the collision and hit the car.
"Nothing so big, but it was not nice," Gianetti said. Fortunately McNulty was unhurt and was able to start the time trial as scheduled, completing the stage without any physical consequences.
The motorist was reportedly a member of the public with no affiliation to the race. The incident reignites the debate about cyclist safety on roads during major events.
