Cardoso scores 26 as Chicago Sky erase 14-point deficit to beat Connecticut Sun 94-88
Kamilla Cardoso scored 18 of her 26 points in the fourth quarter as the Chicago Sky erased a 14-point deficit to beat the Connecticut Sun 94-88 on Thursday night in Chicago.
Cardoso, playing through foul trouble that limited her to just 21 minutes, shot 8-of-12 from the field and 10-of-11 from the free-throw line. The Brazilian center had battled fouls all night but stayed aggressive around the rim and took over the game when it mattered most. Sydney Taylor added 14 points and six assists for the Sky, who improved to 10-18.
The decisive sequence came late. Leila Lacan's driving layup with 4:54 left tied the game at 76-76, but Cardoso answered 16 seconds later with a layup that sparked an 11-2 run the Sun never recovered from, completing a comeback from a deficit that had reached 14 points.
Aneesah Morrow led Connecticut with 21 points on 8-of-12 shooting, while Olivia Nelson-Ododa finished with 16 points, 11 rebounds, four steals and three blocks. Diamond Miller added 14 points and Lacan chipped in 12 points with six assists for the Sun, who fell to 7-22 with a fourth consecutive loss.
DiJonai Carrington made her season debut for Chicago after missing the first 27 games with a sprained foot, finishing with nine points in 16 minutes. Natasha Cloud also contributed for the Sky, who were without Isabel Harrison (personal reasons) and Skylar Diggins (knee).
Both teams are back in action this weekend: the Sun visit Dallas on Sunday, while the Sky host Las Vegas on Saturday.
