La Red Bull ha strappato Gwen Lagrue alla Mercedes: l'attuale responsabile dello sviluppo giovani di Brackley, artefice della scoperta di Andrea Kimi Antonelli, guiderà il programma junior del team austriaco, prendendo di fatto il posto di Helmut Marko.
Il 50enne francese, dieci anni alla Mercedes, sarà una pedina chiave nel progetto Red Bull al fianco del team principal Laurent Mekies. Per ora non c'è una data d'inizio, ma la trattativa è in corso e l'accordo non è ancora chiuso.
Toto Wolff ha confermato che le discussioni proseguono, ma nulla è deciso. "Stiamo parlando con Gwen del futuro, ma non c'è ancora nulla di concordato o deciso", ha dichiarato Wolff dopo il Gran Premio del Belgio a Spa-Francorchamps.
Lagrue fu fondamentale per portare George Russell nel programma Mercedes nel 2017 e sostenerne la crescita fino alla Formula 1. Con Antonelli ha fatto lo stesso: firmato a 11 anni, cresciuto nel percorso di sviluppo e promosso in fretta alla guida della Mercedes nel 2025 dopo l'addio di Lewis Hamilton. Oggi Antonelli guida il campionato con 45 punti di margine.
La Red Bull, dopo l'addio di Marko, deve rilanciare il proprio serbatoio di talenti, e l'arrivo di Lagrue arriva proprio mentre i giovani piloti del team austriaco non hanno ancora replicato i successi di Vettel, Ricciardo e Verstappen.

Gwen Lagrue leaves Mercedes to lead Red Bull junior programme
Red Bull has poached Gwen Lagrue, Mercedes' head of driver development and the man who discovered Andrea Kimi Antonelli, to lead its junior driver programme in a move that effectively replaces Helmut Marko.
Lagrue, the 50-year-old Frenchman who has been with Mercedes for a decade, will take on a pivotal role at Red Bull working alongside team principal Laurent Mekies. No start date has yet been agreed, but the appointment marks a significant coup for the Milton Keynes-based team as it looks to rebuild its driver development pipeline after Marko's departure at the end of last season.
Toto Wolff confirmed that discussions are ongoing but nothing has been finalised. "We're in discussions with Gwen about the future, but nothing's been agreed or decided yet," Wolff said after the Belgian Grand Prix. "Gwen has built up a fantastic team... we want to do it together with Gwen."
Lagrue was instrumental in recruiting George Russell to Mercedes' junior programme in early 2017, supporting the Briton's rise from Williams to the works team. He also identified and signed Antonelli when he was 11 years old, nurturing the Italian through karting and into an F1 drive with Mercedes in 2025, where he now leads the championship.
Red Bull's recent crop of young drivers has not matched the success of the Sebastian Vettel, Daniel Ricciardo and Max Verstappen era, making Lagrue's hire especially significant. The Frenchman's move represents a reshaping of F1's driver development landscape ahead of the Hungarian Grand Prix.
