Aston Villa have signed Argentina winger Alejandro Garnacho on loan from Chelsea, the club announced on Thursday, as Unai Emery's side continues an eventful transfer window ahead of their return to the Champions League.
The 22-year-old former Manchester United forward joins Villa Park just days after Morgan Rogers completed a British-record £125m ($157m) move in the opposite direction. Garnacho spent only one season at Stamford Bridge, a turbulent campaign that saw Chelsea finish 10th in the Premier League and dismiss both Enzo Maresca and Liam Rosenior as head coach.
Garnacho, who represented Spain at youth level before committing his international future to Argentina, has eight senior caps for the Albiceleste and was part of their 2024 Copa America-winning squad. However, he was not selected for Argentina's World Cup squad later that year.
Villa are preparing for their fifth season under Emery, coming off a fourth-place Premier League finish and a Europa League title that secured their place in next season's Champions League. The loan move for Garnacho adds attacking depth to a side that also competes on multiple fronts.
Garnacho joined Chelsea from Manchester United for £40m ($53m) in the summer of 2025 but struggled for consistency in a disjointed Chelsea side. His pace, dribbling, and ability to operate on either flank make him a versatile option for Emery's system.
Villa fans will hope Garnacho rediscovers the form that made him one of Europe's most promising young talents during his breakthrough at Old Trafford, where he scored 16 goals in 81 appearances across all competitions.
